Take your time to lick your wounds – 7Mind Impuls (KW 43)

Patience is a plaster for all wounds.
Miguel de Cervantes

“Time heals all wounds” – yes, I have already had this experience. However, time here can mean a longer period in life and can be painful again and again.

Last week I became aware of the fact that the final phase of my work in the field of education has wounded me more than I would like. Every now and then memories come up and with them feelings of disappointment, injury, anger and grief.
At the same time there are a lot of positive memories connected with joy, lightness and light-heartedness – after all it was almost 25 years in this area. But they don’t come in unasked. I have to consciously recall them in the respective situations in order to get into balance – to smoke a personal peace pipe with myself, so to speak. It will probably take time and also my acceptance to allow it to happen and not be changeable anymore. And: It will take me some time until the wounds heal – how good that I am a rather patient person by nature!

Recently Trudy Goodman quoted Rilke on Instagram, whom I like very much and of whom I quote a few lines below. Since I don’t know the original German quote, here is the English quote: “No feeling is final”. (No feeling is final.) That’s a very simple and yet significant fact, I think. I remembered it once again.

And sometimes great treasures can be found right next to the wounds that haven’t healed yet. Without my cancellation of the contracts this journey with all the new and special experiences would not have been possible if I had never thought about how it would be to stop working altogether.

Paradoxical parallelism!

PS: Sorry, the postcard below is in German. It’s a poem by Rilke called “About Patience”.
