Over Savannah further towards the sun

The stay on Tybee Island let me guess how pleasant the sun would feel even further south in North America. We had stayed on this beautiful peninsula longer than we had planned. An announced weather change with clearly cooler temperatures let our decision mature, now without longer stays and with deletion of some goals on our virtual map, fast further to Florida drive.

But at first Savannah lured us. Already during the passage on the way to Tybee Island we decided to pay the place a detailed visit. Furthermore, Reiner, a blogger who is also travelling in North America with a little lead, had warmly recommended this place to us! (By the way, it’s worth visiting the blog: https://mitdersonnereisen.com).

Following Reiner’s advice that overnight parking might also be allowed in the parking lot of the visitor center, we landed at the riverfront – one of Savannah’s hotspots. There is also a visitor center there – but we did not find the parking lot …

(As it turned out later, there are several of these visitor centers in the city.) The mistake “cost” us almost 100 dollars. Because in the immediate vicinity of a parking lot – on Veterans Day even free of charge until the next morning at 8 – there is a shop with very nice things made of cork. It’s a good thing that the Amigo didn’t fit more than the cork floor mats …

Saradevi in particular came into good conversation with the nice salesman. He gave us excellent tips for our stay in the city. Thanks again on this way!

This place of the former British Colonnie Georgia was founded in 1733 by General James Oglethorpe and built up with selected first settlers. A chessboard-like city layout with a good two dozen identical modules, consisting of residential buildings, public buildings and parks, still form the core of the city today. Small shops, restaurants, the promenade at the old docks, wide streets, a lot of greenery and the pedestrian friendliness pleased us. On recommendation, we stopped for lunch at Grey Market, a quaint restaurant. We have not regretted it!

Over many years we cultivated at home the custom of the Martinsfeuer (always exactly on 11 November), which we could not maintain unfortunately with our city stay. Following one of the tips we visited an impressive cocktail bar instead, instead of a fire pot we had fire water! By the way, I remember it was my first “real” cocktail bar visit. By the way: In Savannah in 1994 the film scene with the chocolate box for Forrest Gump was shot at a bus stop. (Who should not know the film yet, absolutely catch up!)

The next morning we went on early. Past the Wormsloe Plantation with its impressive oak avenue towards Beverly Beach, where we took our first bath in the Atlantic Ocean and now stand for one night. Oh yes, and we also visited an IKEA shop – for over thirty years these furniture stores have also existed in the United States. Know one, know all!

What will the day tomorrow bring us?

Wir freuen uns auf den Austausch mit dir...
