A week full of surprises

Life in the Amigo Amigo

Last time I wrote that I would be busy this week with setting up and arriving. It is still the same now…
The tidying up of my things and the shopping was done in two hours. We’re already used to that.

And yet life in the amigo is simply different from life in the smallest apartment. The drains are different and other things are important, e.g. keeping water, saving electricity anyway, looking at the Porta Potti’s stand as well as the sewage, etc. Things I don’t have to worry about at home. The question about the next shower and the necessity to look for a camping site with washing machine…

And even though I have often been on holiday in the Amigo, it feels different whether I set up for three weeks or for a year.
The Amgio has occupied us more than ever. The changer we installed works fine as long as it’s not plugged in. Since we need much more electricity for our blog, the cameras, mobile phones … than on other trips, we have to fill up with electricity from outside every now and then. That doesn’t work and has already led to problems. In the evenings we are occasionally blank, that is to say standing with empty batteries without being able to edit photos.
Then the internet doesn’t work everywhere – that’s certainly normal. But if you just want to put the logbook online and need half an hour for it, then it’s no joy.

Since our self-caused battery crash, we make sure that we disconnect the devices from the power supply in time. Sure: Heating before photos, stove before Post’s.

Here we will surely find a good rhythm with the weeks and also tame our technology, I am sure of that. Maybe we’ll soon get a hint from home how to get back to the power grid.

Arriving is another thing. I haven’t found a rhythm yet. A rhythm as a camper, a daily structure in which everything fits that is important to me and that I would like to do. A problem that, by the way, isn’t completely alien to me, but that somehow changes at home. So, for example, meditating this week has clearly been neglected and playing Hang.

Life on the road

I still have to get used to the fact that the next supermarket can be 30 km away and not every place has a cafe that the country is so sparsely populated.

As far as the landscape is concerned, I’m still very excited when we’re on our way to our next destination with the Amigo. The landscape is as painted and I can stop and stay everywhere. Much reminds me of Norway, Lofoten and Lapland.
Those who share my passion for pickups will get their money’s worth here. We rarely see small vehicles here. A Fiat 500 was an extreme runaway. The motorhomes are huge – Manfred has already posted a photo. Unbelievable – I didn’t want to drive around with it.

So far we’ve done a special thing every day, explored small places like Peggy’s Cove and Luneburg, took a tour with our mountain bikes through Kejimkujik National Park, biked Balancing Rock and just explored the area.

When walking we often only let ourselves drift and discover so many interesting things that are not on any map. We are often more tempted by the less well-trodden paths that lead to a lighthouse that is normally not accessible.

My highlight of the week

Whalewatching at Brie Islands: I’ve never done anything like this before and was very excited to experience several whales in their environment from a few meters away. Thanks to the great crew of www.brierislandwhalewtch.com this was an unforgettable experience. They have been doing whale research for 35 years and have an incredible wealth of experience. They knew the whales we saw by name. Two were called Calvin and Hobbes, like the characters from my favourite comic.

Now we are back on the mainland waiting for the ferry that takes us to Saint John on the other side of the Bay of Fundy in the state of Main brint. Arrived there we will soon reach the USA.

Oh yes, one more hint: We try to keep the logbook up to date. Here you can see where we are and get more information. I post my photos on the page sa:digital – sorted by months.
