The power of listening – 7Mind Impuls (KW 41)

To break new ground in one’s own communication or to look at it from the outside is already exciting. I notice two different things about myself:

On the one hand I can be a calm listener. On the other hand, I often think I quickly know what the other person is going to say and sometimes I am very quick with my reaction – especially when I know people better.

The latter certainly increases the likelihood that I actually know what the other person wants to say to me. However, this supposed security also carries the danger that this is not the case and that it is rightly perceived as little appreciated.

Listening on the sama:trail

Here on the road, listening takes on a whole new dimension. Foreign languages are not exactly my strength, although I find them exciting and also important in order to be able to get into conversation with people.

Here on the sama:trail I had to make a lot of effort last week to understand everything. Usually I can answer the first question well, which causes the other person to talk to me faster and faster and often becomes unclear.

Listening to this question gains a very special touch. And: Once again I become very aware of how important and necessary it is to listen well and also to adjust myself to my counterpart and to speak in such a way that the other person can understand it as well.

And when I think about it that way, I naturally like it when people listen to me and give me their full attention at that moment.
